The Youth Advisory Council of the Center for the Prevention of Child Abuse is a group of 11-17 year olds in Dutchess County who have a mission to raise awareness of the Center and its programs in the community as well as assisting the Centers’ Board of Directors in fundraising efforts and to participate in individual programming special events. We advocate for the children of Dutchess County and share with our Board our perspective on how to better protect and serve the youth of Dutchess County. Our council was formed in 2008 through a grant from the Dutchess County Youth Council. The goal of the grant is to integrate young people into community and organizational decision making structures and processes, to support youth-adult partnerships. Our members organize events in their schools and in the community. Last year and this we held movie nights in our schools and our members wrote and recorded a song, "Dream Big" that was played on local radio stations during Child Abuse Awareness Month in April. We sell Tedddy bears with the Center logo and postcards made from children's art in order to get our message out. We also help with the Center's annual auction fund raising event in April.
We are always looking for new dedicated members to join us! Contact the Center or the Youth Advisory Council leader Amy Olson at abcmolson@aol.com for more information.
